Energy price increase of 15%, protests and payment boycotts are announced from April

On Saturday, April 5, a protest against the increase in electricity prices will be held in Pristina. Activists and citizens will gather at Skanderbeg Square, starting at 3:00 PM, to express their opposition to the 15% increase in electricity tariffs. Businesses and economists have also come out against the price increase.
Electricity will increase in price by 15% from April 1st, and this was announced by the Chairman of the Board of the Electricity Regulatory Office, Ymer Zejnullahu, during a meeting with business representatives.
He indicated that this way "reflects" part of the electricity import that he said was made last year, but also "the needs for next year."
“ERO has seen a report. It is a professional assessment by ERO staff that is seen as average – it even says that the tariff is average. There may be other categories of consumers who have the greater burden of this. This is the need to reflect a part of the import that was imported in the previous year and the needs for the next year. Mainly, the two main competencies are: import prices and reserve costs.
"Maybe some have misunderstood what auxiliary services are. Auxiliary services are that generator that stands ready to supply us whenever Kosovo B or Kosovo A goes out of the system, to replace that energy, and that is the cost of auxiliary services, which is about over 40 million euros, just so that we don't have interruptions whenever it goes out of the system."
Zejnullahu said they "hope" there will be more favorable electricity prices in the coming years.
"Therefore, do not consider that ERO is eager to increase electricity prices, but these are the opportunities in the market. We hope to have more favorable prices in the coming years, and we hope to have local generation capacities, so that we do not need to import that amount of energy, and we hope that these businesses that are together with us will see opportunities to invest in additional capacities that will help us, both as businesses, but also us as citizens, to have the most favorable prices for our consumers."
ERO will accept comments and suggestions from consumers until April 28, before making the final decision, which is already known anyway.
The 15% increase in electricity tariffs was not welcomed by citizens who harshly criticized the Energy Regulatory Office.
In fact, as a sign of dissatisfaction, there will be a protest in Pristina on April 5th.
The protest will be organized by the group "Not a Cent More", formed by Luan Hasanaj.
”Hapi i parë do jetë protesta, mirëpo jo vetëm protesta ka edhe diskutime tjera, jemi duke menduar që të nisim një fushatë që do iu bëjë thirrje qytetarëve të Kosovës që të bojkotohet pagesa e energjisë elektrike nëse veç ky vendim merret”, ka thënë Luan Hasanaj, Iniciues i peticionit.
Hasanaj thotë që përveç pagesës shtesë së energjisë elektrike kjo ka efekt zinxhiror të pashmangshëm.
”Kjo do pasohet me rritje të çmimeve pothuajse në çdo sektorë qoftë në prodhimtari, qoftë në industri, qoftë në rritjen e çmimeve nëpër markete, qytetarët do të ndikohen edhe më shumë e në anën tjetër nuk kemi veprime të cilat do balancojnë këtë rritje siç janë rritja e pagave”.
Pas paralajmërimit për rritjen e çmimit të energjisë elektrike, ka pasur reagime të shumta, duke kundërshtuar rritjen e çmimit.
Instituti Atlas ka dhënë një rekomandim për Qeverinë e Kosovës, se si do të mund të ulte çmimin e rrymës gjatë viteve 2025 dhe 2026.
“Nëse ZRRE vendos të rrisë të hyrat maksimale të lejuara me 15%, Instituti Atlas kërkon nga Qeveria e Kosovës të heqë TVSh-në prej 18 për qind në faturat e energjisë elektrike dhe të zbatojë opinionin e Avokatit të Popullit dhe gjykatave të Kosovës, duke i kthyer konsumatorëve 132.5 milionë euro të paguara padrejtësisht për konsumimin e energjisë në veri. Zbatimi i këtyre masave do të ulte çmimin e rrymës me 36% gjatë viteve 2025 dhe 2026”, thuhet në postimin e Institutit Atlas.
Shoqata e Industrisë së Qumështit të Kosovës ka kërkuar nga Qeveria e Kosovës të ndërhyjë për të ndaluar rritjen e çmimit të energjisë elektrike, duke theksuar se kjo rritje do të dëmtojë rëndë sektorin e prodhimit të qumështit. Në një reagim të dërguar për mediat, përfaqësues të Shoqatës kanë shprehur shqetësimin për ndikimin negativ që do të ketë shtrenjtimi i energjisë në koston e prodhimit të qumështit.
Ata kanë theksuar se, përveç rritjes së kostove për ambalazhimin e produkteve dhe pagave të punëtorëve, industria e qumështit tashmë po përballet me shpenzime të larta operative.
“Me gjithë sakrificat e bëra deri tani për të ruajtur një paqe sociale për konsumatorët në Kosovë, nëse çmimi i energjisë rritet, do të detyrohemi të veprojmë. Shpresojmë në mirëkuptimin e klientëve tanë. Industria e qumështit në Kosovë ka qenë ndër sektorët më të goditur nga rritja e kostove të prodhimit dhe kërkon nga institucionet që të parandalojnë ndikimin e mëtejshëm të shtrenjtimit të energjisë në zinxhirin e furnizimit me produkte bazike ushqimore”, thuhet në reagim.
Edhe njohësi i ekonomisë, Mustafë Kadrijaj shprehet se shtrenjtimi i mundshëm i energjisë elektrikë është goditje për bizneset dhe qytetarët.
“Shtrenjtimi i energjisë elektrike është ndër faktorët që do të ndikojë në të bërit biznes dhe në cilësinë e jetës së qytetarit. Qeveria duhet të reflektojë që të jetë në përkrahje të bizneseve dhe qytetarëve, sepse nëse vazhdohet me këtë trend do të ngulfatet çdo ditë e më shumë biznesi, por, njëherësh do të bie cilësia e jetës së qytetarit dhe do të reflektojë në pakënaqësi”.
We recall that from April 2023 to March 31, 2024, consumers who consume less than 800 kilowatt hours within a month had their daytime electricity price increased to 7.79 cents per kilowatt, while for those who consume more than 800 kilowatts, the price was 14.45 cents, or over 100 percent more expensive compared to 2013.
