The famous "Dubai" chocolate, which caused long queues last month, is already at the center of a controversy. According to tests carried out in Germany, this product can be harmful to health.
Invented in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai chocolate is famous for its pistachio filling. However, every trend seems to have its downside and this chocolate is no exception.
Analyzes carried out by the chemical and veterinary laboratory in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, revealed disturbing results. Imported from various countries, this product may not always contain what is advertised on the packaging. This information was reported by several German media.
Dubai chocolate: an "obvious fraud"
The laboratory denounced in its report an "open case of fraud against consumers". In five samples from the Emirates, analysis revealed the presence of foreign fats instead of real chocolate.
As for the three samples from Turkey, they contained undeclared sesame, a serious problem for allergy sufferers. Furthermore, almost all samples using artificial colors appeared to attempt to mask the poor quality of the ingredients.
The minister responsible for consumer affairs in Germany strongly condemned these practices:
"This is not acceptable. If the product is called "Dubai chocolate", it must contain real chocolate, without adulteration or contamination , "said the minister.
In the face of test findings revealing allergens, dyes, foreign fats and other impurities, a special program was launched to thoroughly examine Dubai chocolate throughout Baden-Ëürttemberg.
The tests should also include analysis of the pistachio cream used in the chocolate. In a random check, a pistachio filling was found to have high levels of toxic mold, including aflatoxins, which are known to cause serious liver damage.
Pending final results, chocolates imported from the United Arab Emirates and Turkey have been withdrawn from the market. However, the authorities have not specified which producers are affected by these anomalies./
