Revolution in technology, Greek students build the first solar-powered boat

The internationally renowned student team OCEANOS NTUA, of the National Technical University of Athens, officially presented its first solar-powered ship.
Thus, Greek students opened a new chapter in the development of innovative and sustainable technologies for future maritime transport.
Founded in 2016, this team has already won important international awards, most notably first place in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. Today, it takes the next step in Solar Energy, confirming its continuous evolution.
The official presentation of the new ship took place on October 29, 2025, at the War Museum in Athens.
The new ship is powered exclusively by solar energy, with only a small auxiliary battery for ignition. Thanks to high-performance photovoltaic panels and the integration of advanced hydrofoils, the ship's hull is raised above the sea surface, drastically reducing hydrodynamic resistance and increasing its energy efficiency.
This project is an emblematic example of NTUA's dynamic presence in the international academic community, combining scientific excellence, mechanical precision, and environmental sensitivity.
