SpaceX launches rocket to return stranded NASA astronauts

The new crew for the International Space Station launched late Friday, paving the way for the return to Earth of NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who have been stranded in space for nine months.
SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida with a crew of four: NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Japanese astronaut Takuya Onishi and Russian cosmonaut Kirill Peskov. The crew is part of a routine six-month rotation.
The Crew-10 and Dragon spacecraft are expected to arrive at the space station around midnight Saturday.
Along with astronauts Wilmore and Williams, NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov will also return to Earth. The return is expected to take place on Wednesday, giving the two teams enough time to exchange information.
Astronauts Wilmore and Williams arrived at the International Space Station in June 2024 and were expected to stay in space for about 10 days. But their return was delayed due to mechanical problems with their spacecraft, which after several weeks of repairs was sent back to Earth without a crew on board. Their return was postponed several times due to other technical delays./VOA
