Air Albania goes bankrupt/ Rama gives €35 million from the state budget for Sinan Idrizi's debts
Government assumes airline liabilities after air transport project goes bankrupt…
Prime Minister Edi Rama is also using the state budget to cover the consequences of agreements made through the national company "Air Albania", with his realtor Sinan Idrizi and the Turkish company "Turkish Airlines".
The information received by "Pamphlet" from sources within the Ministry of Finance states that, 10 days ago, by verbal order of Edi Rama, a secret mediation agreement was made between the Ministry of Finance, the bankrupt company "Air Albania" and several companies to which "Air Albania" has obligations.
This agreement by the Ministry of Finance aims to have the government assume the repayment of a significant portion of the debts that the air transport company has towards contracting companies for aircraft leases, airport service fees, fuel supplies and catering services.
According to information, the company "Air Albania", during 8 years of air transport activity in 14 destinations, has created around 100 million euros in liabilities towards foreign contractors, who have been addressing international courts for a year.
To avoid legal proceedings with financial risk and to ease obligations, according to sources, Prime Minister Edi Rama has intervened by engaging the government to repay 35 million euros in debts that the company has towards contractors.
In this way, the government has assumed part of the debt, although it has no legal obligation for the obligations of the company "Air Albania", as the state's participation in this company is only 10% of the shares.
However, Prime Minister Edi Rama has asked the Ministry of Finance to take over the repayment of the 35 million euros in debt of the company "Air Albania" through the state budget.
According to the agreement, this amount will be transferred to the administration of the company "Air Albania", on the condition that it repays its obligations to the contracting companies.
Meanwhile, Sinan Idrizi and representatives of "Turkish Airlines", according to this agreement, will restore the obligation to the Albanian government for a period of up to 50 years.
However, this mechanism is considered problematic from a financial point of view, as the company "Air Albania", on whose behalf the debt repayment is undertaken, has ceased activity and is in the process of liquidation.
Seven months ago, the Civil Aviation Authority of Albania blocked the activity of the company “Air Albania” for breach of contracts. International airports stopped services, contracting companies blocked the aircraft they had leased and went to court, while the catering company stopped supplies.
In November 2025, the partner company "Turkish Airlines", represented in "Air Albania" through its subsidiary TÜRK HAVA YOLLARI ANONİM ORTAKLIĞ, announced that it had put up for sale 49% of the shares.
Meanwhile, Sinan Idrizi's other partner company "MDN Investment", which owns 41% of the shares, has also suspended air transport activities in this company.
The government's assumption of the repayment of 35 million euros of debt may also be related to government decision No. 15, dated January 15, 2026, which changed the structure of the company's shareholders and the state's participation in this project. / Pamphlet
