Ombudsman/Bardhi: Peleshi misused our firms

The head of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, has announced criminal charges against the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi, accusing him of abuse of office and falsification of documents in the voting process for the People's Advocate, where Endrit Shabani was elected.
According to Bardhi, Peleshi "forged parliamentary acts" by using the signatures of DP MPs, who had withdrawn, to present Shabani as a valid candidate, while according to him, he "did not have any supporting signatures."
Bardhi states that the lawmakers' signatures were used against their will and that this action aims to "fulfill Edi Rama's ambition to capture every institution."
He announced that he has authorized the DP's legal team to prepare a criminal complaint against Pelesh and others involved, while he will also request the group's authorization to address the Constitutional Court in order to verify the legality of the election of the People's Advocate.
Through the falsification of parliamentary acts, Niko Peleshi presented to the Albanian Parliament yesterday for voting as a false candidate for Ombudsman a man who did not have the support of a single MP with a valid signature, let alone the 28 MPs as the law requires for the vote.
Precisely by abusing his office, the Speaker of the Parliament fulfilled Edi Rama's sick ambition to seize every power, including the last constitutional institution that was not under the control of the government.
However, this time the Speaker of the Assembly has exceeded every limit, misusing the signatures of the deputies of the Assembly of Albania who had withdrawn from the proposal of the respective draft decision. No one can use the signatures/proposals of the deputies of the Assembly of Albania against their will.
Therefore, today, I have immediately authorized the legal team of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group to prepare a criminal complaint for "abuse of office" and "falsification of parliamentary documents" in collaboration with the Speaker of the Assembly Niko Pelesh, and anyone else who has a role in this unprecedented act of the Assembly. In the meantime, I will request from the parliamentary group the appropriate authorization to address the Constitutional Court to verify the election of the People's Advocate through a completely illegal parliamentary procedure.
The DP Parliamentary Group has been and remains determined that the election of constitutional bodies must be carried out according to a transparent, inclusive procedure that guarantees the independence of these institutions, as the European Commission's Progress Report underlines. Only in this way is Albania on the right path towards the European Union. Otherwise, it is proven that we have officially transitioned to a party-state!
