Molotov bombs and clashes with the police escalate the protest at the Municipality of Tirana

For more than two hours Rithemelimi and their supporters have been protesting in front of the Municipality of Tirana.

The protest started peacefully, accompanied by speeches by PD and PL municipal councilors, while the online municipal council meeting took place in parallel, where the mayor Erion Veliaj also participated after leaving the SPAK, where he was interrogated for 7 hours.

The gathering worsened when the opposition MPs joined the protesters, such as Gazmend Bardhi, Flamur Noka and Luciano Boçi, Albana Vokshi, Luan Baçi and others...

Citizens pulled down the metal fence placed in front of the police cordon, while the municipal councilors tried to teach inside the institution.

There were also physical clashes between the protesters and the police, while the Molotov cocktails and hard objects that were thrown at them were retaliated by using tear gas.

A2 CNN reporter Anesti Bajramemaj reports that the protesters have thrown stones at the police.

" One of the protesters who was throwing hard objects and insulting the officers was arrested by the police. The accompanying gentleman (around 60) was wearing a mask and resisted more tear gas, but as soon as the crowd dispersed, he handcuffs have been placed and he is being taken to the nearest police station ," he reports.

Meanwhile, the organizers and the blue uniforms have called with a megaphone to stop throwing stones at the police officers.

The protest is expected to last until 20:00, the time specified in the permit that the Tirana Police has given to the organizers, but other scenarios are not excluded from the Re-establishment, as today's gathering has been more tense than the previous four.
