Ilir Meta remains in prison, even the Constitutional Court rejects his request for a change of measure
Former President Ilir Meta will not be released from detention. The decision was made by the Constitutional Court, which reviewed Meta's request to gain freedom on Wednesday.
"Regarding the manner of implementing the measure "prison arrest", in the conditions where there is no decision from the ordinary courts on degrading treatment, the court decides not to consider it. Regarding the measure, by majority vote the court assesses that the applicant may have committed criminal offenses, therefore the measure against him was imposed based on reasonable suspicion. It is not proportional", the court said.
Earlier in the day, the Special Court set April 27 as the first hearing of the trial against Meta, former MP Monika Kryemadhi and 3 other defendants.
They are accused by SPAK of being involved in corruption, money laundering and failure to declare assets.
