The German Ambassador to Albania, Karl Bergner, welcomed the achievement of the interim objectives in the "Fundamentals" group chapter, during the Intergovernmental Conference held today between Albania and the European Union in Brussels.
In his statement on Facebook, the German diplomat described this as an important step in the process of Albania's membership in the European Union, congratulating Albanian citizens, as well as representatives of politics, administration and justice for their commitment in this direction.
"Respect for the independence of the judiciary and the unhindered fight against corruption, even in high-level cases, are non-negotiable conditions for Albania's progress in the EU accession process. This also includes the fact that decision-making regarding the lifting of immunity must be in line with the recommendations of the Venice Commission," he said.
