Pact with Berisha?/ Rama: The more I cooperate, the deeper the difference between the SP and the so-called opposition

From Brussels, where he will participate in the intergovernmental conference on Albania's EU membership, in an interview with Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu, Edi Rama commented on Albania's progress in the EU integration process, underlining the success in terms of the opening milestones and explaining the process that awaits the country in the future.
He was also asked about his relationship with the opposition, stating that the more he cooperates, the greater the difference in the elections between the SP and the DP.
What does today's moment of the start of the closing of chapters mean for Albania?
It is an extremely important station. It is the moment of the strong turning point of the process, when after all the negotiation chapters have been opened and a very detailed analysis of all the areas covered by the negotiations has been made, the member states have given the green light to continue with the closing milestones. So, there were the opening milestones, all the chapters were opened, now we have started with the closing milestones, which translates into the closing of the chapters.
For the start of the closing phase of the chapters with the EU, how did you manage to overcome some strict requirements from Germany or any other country that has reached this point?
There has been a lot of speculation, rumors and gossip about this process, politically motivated. It has been a process of walking between the commission and the member states. We now have the green light to continue with the closing of the chapters.
Mr. Prime Minister, today we are talking about the final phase of the negotiations. What does this mean specifically for Albanian citizens and how close is full membership really?
Membership has never been closer and the most important thing is that so far we are within the calendar agreed with the EC and this is an absolutely encouraging confirmation. It is undoubtedly very good news for Albania and Albanians, because the closer we get to the top, where we have the mandate to reach, but also the mission, the closer Albanians are to the moment when they will be provided with the European passport and will be members of the great European family, which has a universal value for every citizen of the Republic of Albania, inside or outside it.

Gjithçka dhe gjithmonë varët nga dinamikat politike të Unionit dhe për sa kohë këto janë në favorin tonë, ne duhet të vrapojmë siç po e bëjmë, të kryejmë detyrat siç po i kryejmë, të jemi të suksesshëm siç po jemi dhe nga ana tjetër ta kthejmë gjithë këtë proces, jo vetëm garanci për shqiptarët dhe Shqipërinë vendin, por edhe për përfitim sot. Mbi të gjitha, me një fjali të vetme, ky moment është vendosja e një vule kuptimplotë për atë që është Shqipëria sot; një histori suksesi në rrugën për anëtarësimin në BE.
Në raportin e IBAR, vendet anëtare insistojnë te lufta kundër korrupsionit në nivelet e larta. Ndërsa opozita thotë se janë shtuar kushtet për Shqipërinë. Çfarë garancie jepni se kapitujt do mbyllen në fund të 2027-ës dhe anëtarësimi i plotë në 2030?
Ky është një proces përmbushjesh të të gjitha kushteve që duhen plotësuar për të qenë vend anëtar i BE. Këtu nuk bëhet fjalë për shtim kushtesh apo ulje të numrit të tyre. Bëhet fjalë për një kornizë tërësore kushtesh, të cilat nënkuptojnë detyra shtëpie që duhen bërë. Nuk ka shtim kushtesh, për më tepër pastaj kur vjen puna për piketat përmbyllëse vendet anëtare praktikisht dakordësojnë ose jo me Komisionin. Ndërkohë që gjuha e raportit është një gjuhë ku vendet anëtare vendosin thekset e caktuara për ta fokusuar vendin përkatës dhe njëkohësisht edhe për nënvizuar se çfarë presim prej këtij vendi. Kjo është gjëja më normale në këtë proces dhe kush i ka lexuar këto rrugëtime të atyre që e kanë ndjekur më parë këtë rrugë dhe kush i sheh sot edhe brenda BE dinamikat që lidhen me shtetin e së drejtës, sundimin e ligjit, antikorrupsionin, e ka shumë të qartë se kjo është një histori e të qenit pjesë e kësaj familjeje. Ne jemi shumë të motivuar sot dhe shumë të energjizuar nga ky moment jashtëzakonisht i rëndësishëm, sepse kemi kapërcyer në kohë rekord, si asnjë vend tjetër në këtë proces, një mal të tërë me detyra. Tani na pret mali tjetër, që është edhe i fundit, ai i detyrave të lidhura me mbylljen e kapitujve.
The opposition initially said that the process was blocked because the majority did not vote for the arrest of Deputy Prime Minister Balluku, but in recent days it joined your votes to approve a joint resolution on integration. How do you see this move of theirs and how do you respond to the rumors that you and Berisha are in agreement?
If I were to say what I feel like saying, even though since the day the campaign closed I have refused even to myself to comment on the other side and especially on the bottle, the label and the product itself that the other side's bottle contains, then I would say that if this is cooperation, it is absolutely unprecedented cooperation in the history of world politics on my part, because the more I cooperate, the more the distance between the DP and the so-called opposition, which is truly in a deplorable agony, deepens.
You were the Prime Minister who negotiated the opening and advancement of the process. Do you consider European integration your most important political project?
Integration is not my project, it is the historical mission of Albanians and all those who have desired that Albania belongs to the world from where the sun rises to where it sets, so I consider it a fortune and privilege that fell to me and the Socialist Party at this stage of the country's history, the burden and at the same time the opportunity to lead this process to its crowning. We will leave no stone unturned to succeed, always with confidence and working with the awareness that every step we take on this path is not a step to escape from Albania and go to Brussels, Berlin, Paris or Rome, but a step we take to build within 28 thousand square kilometers of our Republic the European state of Albanians.
