"Whoever wants state land, should pay grain by grain!"/ Rama criticizes mayors: Sit back and wait from the state budget

Prime Minister Edi Rama took a critical stance towards mayors during the meeting held in Golem, where he focused on the way public assets are administered and territorial development.
Rama emphasized that in the past, many state assets were given away for free, which, according to him, were not translated into investments, but were left on the streets.
The Prime Minister made it clear that the government will not give away a single square meter of state land and anyone who asks for it "must pay grain by grain."
"For every square meter where the state is the owner, we have conditioned participation as an owner. The only motive for giving land with a symbolic contract, 1 euro, is the hotel industry. Everything else is, take the part you want and pay grain by grain, what you give to the private sector," he said.
Rama said that municipalities must move to another phase and view the territory with an entrepreneurial approach. According to the head of government, municipalities expect funds from the state budget and this cannot continue.
" Until yesterday we gave away many assets for free, they were given and left on the streets in the past, assets that are not counted. They were not translated into serious investments, endless lands were given for development. This has finally stopped. We no longer give away a single square meter of land in the event that a builder has 95% of the property and a part is state property. No more.
For every square meter where the state is the owner, we have conditioned participation as an owner. The only motive for giving land with a symbolic contract, 1 euro, is the hotel industry. Everything else is, take the part that asks and pay grain by grain, what you give to the private sector. Municipalities can take an important role, profitable developments. Without forgetting the social benefit, for those families who need housing.
We are reforming and we will have an agency where planning and housing will be together, it will be at the disposal of the Local Government. This process will be open to everyone. We need initiative, we need to look at every part of the territory with an entrepreneurial approach, for the municipality's income. You can't sit and wait from the state budget. You need to move to the next phase," he emphasized.
