Lapaj calls for a Great Popular Alliance: Only a civic front can overthrow Rama

The leader of the Albania Becomes Movement, Adriatik Lapaj, called for the creation of a Great Popular Alliance, during an interview on Thursday evening on the "Opinion" show on TV Klan, emphasizing that only a broad civic front can bring about the departure of Prime Minister Edi Rama's government.

Lapaj stated that the political situation in the country is abnormal and that corruption scandals are emerging one after another, making the continuation of the current government unacceptable.

According to him, the parliamentary opposition is not enough in the face of this situation and the involvement of civil society, intellectuals, activists and engaged citizens is necessary, beyond any political affiliation.

"We are not in a normal situation. We are in a situation where the country's deputy prime minister has been caught red-handed and where a new corruption scandal erupts week after week. This government cannot last another hour, " Lapaj said.

He stressed that the mandates won by the majority no longer have political and moral legitimacy. "Those 83 mandates are worth zero today, because they were won under different conditions, when what is happening today was not known. He should leave without conditions, not impose conditions ," he declared.

Asked by moderator Blendi Fevziu whether opposition parties alone are enough, Lapaj firmly replied that no. “We need a large civic front, of civil society, intellectuals, activists and political parties that do not put ego before the public interest,” he said.

Lapaj also responded to criticism of the participation in the protests, emphasizing that the rallies have been increasing. He recalled the protests held on December 20, January 4 and January 17, while announcing the next protest on January 31, Saturday, at 6:00 PM, which he said is expected to be massive.

"Our stability and continuity are like a stone that gets stuck in your shoe and doesn't let you walk anymore. In this regard, a Grand People's Alliance in the square, beyond the acronyms, is the only way," concluded Lapaj.
