US President Donald Trump has downplayed his party's losses in the midterm elections, stating that he does not consider the results a rebuke to his presidency.
In a live telephone interview with Fox News, Trump reacted after CNN predicted a Democratic victory and taking control of the US Congress.
" But I don't see it as a knock on me. We've had the best two years in the history of the presidency in terms of the economy and all the things we've done ," Trump declared.
Asked about his final message to American citizens, the president chose to congratulate Democrats on the results achieved.
"Congratulations to the Democrats. They did a good job. They've been asking for this for 11 years and they finally got it ," he said.
During the same interview, Trump also criticized some of the Republican candidates he had supported during the campaign, blaming them for the negative results.
According to the president, some of them failed to mobilize the Republican base and convince his supporters to go to the polls.
