China has stated that it is willing to continue cooperation with the United States, despite the results of the US midterm elections, where President Donald Trump's Republicans lost control of both houses of Congress.
The statement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning during a press conference.
"The midterm elections are an internal matter of the United States," she said, emphasizing that Beijing intends to maintain communication and cooperation with Washington.
"China is willing to continue to work with the United States to uphold and implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen communication, properly manage disputes, expand cooperation, and build a constructive and strategically stable China-US relationship based on the principles of respect, equality, and reciprocity," Mao Ning continued.
Beijing's statement comes at a crucial moment for relations between the two superpowers, which have had disagreements in several areas, including trade and international politics.
