"Change is impossible if the DP does not change", Salianji: I do not

Former MP Ervin Salianji, invited to the studio of the show "Oponencë" on News24 , commented on the latest political developments in the country, focusing on the movement he started, as well as criticism of the current opposition leadership.

Salianji stated that oppositions in every country have moral superiority over the government, emphasizing that this should also be reflected in the way the opposition functions in Albania. According to him, if the government does not tolerate dissenting opinions, then the opposition should do the opposite, listening to and including all voices.

He emphasized that uniting the opposition should be the first step, which should then be followed by opening the party. According to Salijanj, if the Democratic Party had done this process itself, he would not have undertaken his political movement.

The former MP added that he has had important roles within the DP, being part of the Presidency and a political leader in an area, but stressed that he does not see the opposition as a workplace. According to him, the current situation does not only hold the DP hostage, but also the contribution and sacrifice of its supporters.

Salianji stated that political change is impossible if the Democratic Party itself does not change, recalling that the opposition is in its 13th year out of power. He brought to attention the protests of 2017 and 2019, saying that in 2017 the protest worked, but according to him it was failed by the leadership when it sat down at the table with Prime Minister Rama. As for the 2019 protests, he emphasized that they had massive participation and produced a reaction and effect.

According to Salianja, today the opposition is faced with the question of what the concrete effect of its political actions is.
