"We are not France"/ Rama in the Parliamentary Group: Stop making mistakes with the laws for EU integration! We have more conditions than Croatia

Prime Minister Edi Rama advised his subordinates at the Socialist Parliamentary Group meeting today not to make mistakes with the draft laws that are in the process of negotiations for EU membership and Albania's integration, as it is a wrong strategy and method that he himself had made this mistake until now.
The majority leader said that to make a law like France and Germany, you have to be like those countries and Albania is not at that level. He called for more work and concentration to achieve the 2030 objective, starting from making the best laws, according to the conditions that the EU itself has set.
The Prime Minister underlined that Albania has more conditions than all EU member states that had become part of the Union over the years.
"Time flies and the work is very big, if we have set the date of 2030 for EU membership. The other point is the process related to EU membership laws, it is delayed. Another mistake we make with the laws. In this process, we do not have the freedom to intervene according to our own opinions. We do not have this freedom, to clarify, we have the freedom to negotiate with the EU. We do not have the freedom to discuss after negotiating. Negotiations come in drafts that enter the entire broad and complex mechanism of the architecture of European law, are negotiated with the Commission, imposed on the government and come to parliament. The moment it comes to parliament, it must be approved and not discussed, because to find a discussion of such a law, we must discuss whether we want to enter the EU or not", said Rama.
And moving on to the main point of the process and draft laws that go wrong, he advised and explained that:
"I have another problem here, that many friends and colleagues here make the mistake that I also made and that I just learned about and that they should not make. They take a draft from the government and that has been negotiated with the countries and refer to other EU countries and say look, France doesn't have it like this, Germany doesn't have it like this, even Croatia doesn't have it like this, so why should we do it? I am sharing this experience with you, because I am not easily swayed, but you should be too."
Rama suggested that ministers be more flexible in discussions and the preparation of laws and their adaptation to those of the EU, because Albania has even more severe conditions than Croatia, which was among the last countries to join.
"I invite you all to be flexible on this point. The answer is simple, to do it like France you have to be France, but we are Albania. You are the one who asked to be part of the EU and not us, these are the conditions. If you want, these are the conditions, if not, you can do as you wish. This does not happen only with Albania. The entire membership process has brought about aggravation of conditions for those who have less problems. Those who were from the former Soviet Eastern empire have had it easier, even though they have been much less prepared than we are today. Then came the others who had more conditions than the others and so on, up to Croatia and now we are the ones who have conditions that even Croatia would not be able to imagine," he underlined.
The Prime Minister also asked experienced MPs to be included in the working groups for the preparation of laws, to provide their experience and expertise.
"The other point I want to address, since we started this mandate, should be in the attention of the group, the leaders of the group and the two ministers leading the negotiations, this is the part related to the phase before the closure of the negotiations, which perhaps needs much more work to be explained with the group and to be heard with the group. So there needs to be mutual information, together with the deputies who, due to the Commissions and expertise, can contribute to a drafting process, to be informed and to be welcome to contribute. So this today's format, necessary for further, with specific points and common points for the negotiation process, the drafts in process and those that come later, we will also develop it," he said.
