"We could not prevent the electoral farce", Berisha: We defended the

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, began his speech at the meeting of the DP National Council, where he articulated strong accusations against the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding the electoral process and the use of the state during the electoral campaign.

Berisha said the opposition was unable to stop the government's actions, which he said included the distribution of money to pensioners, legalizations, property certificates, construction permits, and illegal activities during the campaign. He also accused the government of using public resources and involving criminal elements in the electoral process.

"We are the opposition and we could not stop this farce. For these unprecedented proportions, I have declared that with Rama there is no choice. He proved this in 2021, when he distributed 130 million euros, turning the elections into a farce in a poor country," Berisha said.

The DP leader stressed that the opposition had a duty to document and substantiate the violations, both to voters and to the international community. According to him, the OSCE/ODIHR report has confirmed the accusations made by the opposition for manipulation of the electoral process and illegal use of power.

Berisha stated that despite pressures and attempts to influence international relations, the Democratic Party has managed to protect the vote and achieve its main objective. He added that, in his opinion, the only way to hold free elections in the country is for Edi Rama to leave power.

At the end of his speech, Berisha underlined that the DP did not fall for any provocation and that the absolute priority remained the protection of the citizens' vote, describing this as a fulfilled duty towards the democrats and all Albanians.
