Prime Minister Edi Rama, in a speech during a meeting of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, criticized the opposition and the Democratic Party, accusing them of "legalizing hooliganism" within the Albanian Parliament.
Rama stressed that this behavior has major social and psychological consequences, especially for young people and families who follow the work of Parliament, creating hatred and widening the social gap. “When I say politics, I do not speak as the envoys of other countries in Albania speak, but politics that acts backwards, trying to prevent us from moving forward,” Rama said.
He called for improving the functioning of the Assembly and introducing technology more broadly into parliamentary work. Rama suggested that the Parliament channel of Albanian television be transformed into a true parliamentary platform, showing sessions and committees, but also including discussions and analysis, based on the model of other countries.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the importance of opposition representation, asking about Gjekmarkaj's role as deputy speaker, and praising his contribution as a "positive asset" for Parliament.
"Legalizing hooliganism in Parliament is complicit in the attack on all those young people and families who attend the Albanian Parliament, it is a blow on the psychological, educational level and above all a blow on the social aspect. Because it only creates incitement to hatred and only widens the gap, undeserved for Albanians that politics keeps open and digs. When I say politics, I do not speak like the envoys of other countries in Albania speak where they say politics in general, but politics that we have not faced, but behind, trying to prevent us from moving forward.
Further, and here I want to close with the functioning of the Parliament, we must move forward with great determination in introducing technology as deeply as possible into the work of the Parliament, with all that was said. We have said it other times, I think that the parliament channel on Albanian television should become a parliament channel, not simply to directly connect the sessions or committees. Other countries have a parliamentary channel, we should have one too. This is done by inviting the representative of the opposition, is Professor Gjekmarkaj still the vice president? How is the situation? The professor is a positive asset. I hope it doesn't cost him any blows under the belt" , said Rama.
