Former Scorpions drummer James Kottak has died aged 61. The sad news was reported by the website Metal Sludge and confirmed by the posts of his colleagues.
The American musician joined the legendary Scorpions in 1996 and was officially replaced in 2016 by Mikkey Dee.
He had been out of the group before, after his episodic 2014 arrest in Dubai.
In interviews he had given in recent years, James had admitted that alcohol consumption negatively affected his behavior and performance, without admitting, however, that he was addicted.
Known for his dynamic playing and energy on stage, Kottak rose to fame with Kingdom Come, appearing on 1988's successful debut "Kingdom Come" and 1989's "In Your Face."
