Monaco team disappears, club declares bankruptcy and suspends activity

One of the most successful projects in European basketball in recent years is facing an unexpected end. Monaco has officially announced that it has declared bankruptcy and suspended its activities, leaving open the possibility of a restructuring and return of the club in the future. The Roca team, which in recent years has become one of the strongest teams in France and in the EuroLeague, is leaving the scene after a period of extraordinary success. Monaco won important trophies in French basketball, while in the European arena it reached the Final Four and even played in the EuroLeague final.

In a lengthy statement, the club described it as a "sad day" while thanking fans for their support and loyalty over the past 12 years.

"Today is a sad day. Despite our efforts, Monaco has declared bankruptcy. The club is now suspending its operations, hoping to find a way to restructure and, at some point, restart the project. Roca's team leaves the field undefeated in France for the past season, having won all the important French trophies.

In its five seasons in the EuroLeague, Monaco has defeated every major European power it has faced. Winning the EuroCup in 2021 gave the Principality its first European title in a team sport. No one can destroy what was built in these 12 years: three French championship titles, four Leaders Cups, two French Cups, a Super Cup and two appearances in the EuroLeague Final Four, including one final. A record of victories and trophies that will forever be part of Monaco's sporting history. And yet, the greatest achievement has never been a trophy.

It was you!

The Roca family: unique, passionate and incredibly loyal. Those thousands of voices, those flags and jerseys, those journeys, that trust. What was created in the stands and around this team surpasses any victory – no matter how extraordinary it was – or any title, no matter how prestigious.

This legacy does not fade. Nor does the competitive spirit that has always characterized AS Monaco.

The ultimate goal remains for Monaco to regain the position it deserves and we hope that, as soon as possible, the Roca team will shine again at the Gaston Médecin stadium, that the great Roca team flag will wave again over the stands and that thousands of voices will echo once again in unison: The future of men's basketball in Monaco is now in the hands of the ASM Association: its leaders, coaches, young athletes and the first team, which competes in Nationale 3.

Monaco is handing over the baton to them today, in the hope that one day the colours, red and white, will return to the highest level. Until then, what we built together remains unchanged.

Thank you," the statement said.
