Separately, the State Department's Office of Inspector General has launched an investigation into allegations about Guilfoyle's treatment of embassy employees, private travel, acceptance of gifts and relationships with business interests, according to a report in the Daily Mail newspaper.
Sources describe a hostile work environment, where Guilfoyle allegedly threatened employees with termination. They also allege that she had her security escorts grounded for minor incidents, including one who reportedly failed to respond to a request to bring her ice at 4 a.m. while she was vacationing in Mykonos.
The Office of the Inspector General declined to confirm or deny the existence of an investigation. Binnall told the Daily Mail that “any implication of wrongdoing by the ambassador is not supported by evidence.”
The allegations have drawn the attention of Democrats in Congress, including Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire and Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York, who have called for a review of Guilfoyle's conduct. Meeks called for her removal if the allegations are proven.
Vice President JD Vance addressed the controversy on Friday, warning against jumping to conclusions but acknowledging that inappropriate behavior should have consequences.
Trump nominated Guilfoyle for the diplomatic post in December 2024. A former California prosecutor and former Fox News Channel television personality, she had previously served as one of the president's most prominent public supporters and fundraisers.
Guilfoyle was very close to becoming Trump's bride. She was engaged to Don Jr. for four years, but the two publicly announced their separation in December 2024, the same month the president nominated her for the post of ambassador to Greece.
The president's eldest son married Bettina Anderson, a well-known high society figure in Palm Beach, in May of this year.
Guilfoyle was also previously married to California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom from 2001 to 2006, when he served as mayor of San Francisco.
