Sali Berisha hostage to Edi Rama? / DP as collateral for political bargaining!
From Bato Kosovo
Sali Berisha is using the Democratic Party as his personal property, while Edi Rama is taking advantage of an opposition that promises war but fails to produce real resistance. Is this simply political incompetence, or a game that serves both?
Sali Berisha has been demanding sacrifices from the Democrats for years, promising them victory and calling them to battle against Edi Rama. But every time the moment comes to show the opposition's strength, the outcome is disappointing. Strong statements, ultimatums, loudly announced protests and in the end a result that does not match the rhetoric.
Today, the doubt is greater than ever: Is Berisha holding the DP hostage to preserve his own position, while Rama ensures the continuity of power?
TERRITORIAL DIVISION BARGAIN: THREE MONTHS OF TALKS, ZERO RESULTS
For several months, Berisha and his representatives were involved in discussions with Rama about territorial division. A honeymoon in consultations, dialogue and cooperation, to create the impression that everything was concluded with cooperation. After consuming the honeymoon, they remembered that they should look like they were having a clash.
The majority sent its draft to the Assembly, while the DP continued to waste time with rhetoric. Berisha said that he had doubts that Rama would not cooperate. Surprise!
If Berisha knew that Rama would push forward with his draft, why did he let the opposition waste months in negotiations?
If he had another plan, why didn't he present it in July?
This raises the question: Did these discussions serve more to create the appearance of a political dialogue than to protect the interests of the opposition?
And if that was not the case, Berisha should explain what the DP specifically gained from these negotiations.
The mockery of the Democrats continues...
On the day of the parliamentary vote, Berisha declared a national protest in front of the Assembly. Expectations were high, the rhetoric was strong, but participation in this protest, at its peak, reached about 100 people.
Does the DP no longer have people to answer the call of its leader?
Or are Democrats tired of battles that are declared decisive and end in vain?
Berisha has a party with a structure, leadership, and membership at his disposal. Why didn't he manage to organize a protest that would exert real pressure on the Assembly?
There are over 2,000 people at leadership levels across the world alone. If this was the national struggle it promised, the result was a political failure that demands accountability.
And if the goal was only to create the impression of resistance, then who does this game serve?
Berisha warned of resistance within the parliamentary session. But what remained of this resistance?
The throwing of an egg and splashing of water became the images that accompanied the clash in the Parliament. Was the battle that big?
Berisha promised the Democrats that he would block, resist, and impose another political reality. But Rama continued with his agenda.
In the end, who pays the price of this strategy?
Not Berisha personally, but the democrats who still believe in Sali Berisha and of course the Albanians who today do not have an alternative.
The Democratic Party is facing difficulties in mobilizing citizens and convincing international partners to support its positions. Berisha continues to declare new battles, but the Democrats have the right to demand accountability for the results of previous battles.
Now Berisha is shifting the battle to a referendum. Berisha knows that the referendum path is impossible from his bargain with Edi Rama. This path was also tried in 2014 and was rejected because it lacks a legal basis.
But Berisha is simply using the referendum as another tool to keep militants mobilized around a battle, while everything is in the function of holding the Democratic Party hostage.
For Albanians, the most important question is not what Berisha says about Rama, but what results he produces in the face of him.
The game is now clear. Rama continues to govern, Berisha maintains his role as opposition leader. Thus, each can maintain his position, while the Democrats pay the price of an opposition blocked by Sali Berisha's personal interests.
Sali Berisha can no longer hide from the Democrats: his goal is not to overthrow Edi Rama, but to maintain control over the Democratic Party. Because if every battle ends with the same result, if every protest produces less than promised and every strategy is replaced with another promise, then the problem is not only with Edi Rama.
The problem also lies with the leadership of the opposition. And the democrats have the right to demand accountability from the man who constantly asks them for sacrifices, but who must show where those sacrifices lead.
An opposition cannot be hostage to its leader. /Alfapress.al
