The Albanian boxer 'leaves' England: I don't want to lose opportunities because of politics

Albanian boxer Adam Maca was one of the brightest European stars in the last two EUBC Junior Championships.

The young boxer represented England and won the European gold medal twice. Maca also aimed to win the world title, but the situation has since changed and England left the IBA to join World Boxing.

However, Maca's willingness to participate in the IBA World Junior Championships in Yerevan was so great that the solution was found.

The Albanian Boxing Federation was happy about the athlete's choice to change his nationality and fight for his homeland, Albania.

Maca began to represent Albania and came to the capital of Armenia for his purpose.

"I had a really good time representing England, I'm happy with the opportunities I had there. Now I'm fighting for Albania and I'm happy to represent my historical homeland", said the boxer Maca.

"I just want to fight, not to get involved in politics. I'm here for boxing and it's a big opportunity for me, which I can't miss", he emphasized to "Insidethegames".

The rising Albanian boxing star had an impressive journey in Yerevan, confidently defeating strong rivals from Uzbekistan, Belarus and Afghanistan. However, it was Platon Kozlov of Russia who took gold in the men's 57kg category, defeating Maca in the final by unanimous decision.

"I am satisfied with the way the tournament went. I had four matches and came away with the silver medal for my country. I lost in the final in a close 50/50 match. I am satisfied with my performance and will come back next year for the gold medal," he added.

Although the gold medal was his main goal, Maca is not disappointed with the silver.

"I would like to have more, but I am also satisfied with the silver medal. I will strive for more in the future", said Adami.

And the Albanian athlete sees the future under the IBA.

"Definitely the IBA is the organization I want to fight in. The World Championship is a great opportunity, which I could not miss, especially after the two European titles", concluded Maca.
