Smuggling cigarette packs on the Tirana-Athens bus, Kakavija customs officers turn a "blind eye"

The Economic Crime Unit at the Gjirokastra Local Police Directorate has discovered a large quantity of smuggled cigarettes hidden in the Athens-Tirana bus.
The incident is reported to have occurred in the early hours of this morning at the Kakavija Border Crossing Point, when a passenger bus, which runs the Tirana-Athens-Tirana route, was intercepted at the Customs exit. This has led to the assumption that the customs officers on duty apparently allowed the entry into Albanian territory of a large quantity of cigarette contraband.
According to reports, there were about 90 packs of cigarettes hidden in closed places, in different parts of the bus. Among them were several bags of clothes without purchase receipts and customs clearance.
As a result, it is learned that the driver and the other person responsible on the bus have been criminally prosecuted, while the arrest of the two customs officers on duty and the person in charge of the shift is expected after the completion of the first investigative actions, which include reviewing security camera footage or seizing and examining phones.
