'We aim for 1000 items'/ Rama presents the "Price Review": Over 200 items part of this initiative, prices do not change until January 12

Prime Minister Edi Rama has declared that five important food trade entities have committed to keeping the prices of a number of products unchanged until January 12 of next year, as part of the presentation of the "Price Mirror" platform.
During the presentation of the platform, Rama emphasized that in the face of rising costs in international markets, businesses must look beyond daily profit and also consider the interests of consumers.
The Prime Minister argued that the pressure on the economy and rising costs are not just Albanian phenomena, but have affected various countries around the world.
"Today is a time when we must look beyond daily profit and when respect for the citizen, respect for the consumer materializes in the form of knowledge itself, in conditions of pressure on the economy that has nothing to do with internal reasons, but that has involved the entire world in the increase in costs in general that are characteristic of all countries.
"A way must be found to offer more opportunities to people who have the most difficulties. Today, thanks to this understanding and interaction of these 5 important entities in the food trade, we have this overview in hand, the price overview and this agreement for a series of items that will have a reasonable and fixed price until January 12 of next year," said Rama.
The head of government emphasized that so far there are 238 products with low prices, while emphasizing that by the end of the year the goal is for the "Price Mirror" to have 1,000 items.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the goal is not for the state to set prices, but to promote free competition, transparency, and cooperation in consumer protection.
Rama: I am glad that we carried out this initiative with understanding and agreement, because we are in a time when we need to look beyond daily profit and respect for the citizen is shown by looking at the situation we are in and which has involved the entire world in the increase in costs as a whole, which are characteristic of all countries.
We need to take a step beyond that line between the seller and the buyer, we need to find a way to offer more opportunities to people in difficulty. Today, thanks to this understanding and interaction of these 5 important food trading entities in Albania, we practically have this overview in hand and this agreement for a series of items that will have a reasonable and fixed price until January 12 of next year.
Different countries have taken similar initiatives and when they have found common ground, we have no reason not to find it among us as well. This is not the end, it is the beginning of a process, where we want to include more and more entities, even smaller ones, and retail outlets, which are points where, as the minister said, prices move illegally and for this, a fine is also provided for in the law if those prices are speculation.
Our call will be for understanding and inclusion in this initiative. There are over 200 items that are part of the mirror and by the end of the year we aim to have 1000. Entities update prices in the mirror and citizens are informed in real time.
There are calls for us to set prices, but it is impossible because we collectively chose in 1990, where prices are set by free competition. I believe it will be a relief for consumers, we will need work and I would like to promote this initiative.
There is no doubt that time, as always, will teach us more. The experience of this program will teach us more. This mirror is the concept of 'Albania Mirror', but we want to take transparency to another level in every sector, so that everyone can see with their own eyes the facts and truths of everyday life. Creating a unique mirror where the state is accessible with a click and where you get to know the facts, the truths that stem from the facts is very necessary at this time. The Price Mirror is one of these components and is ready to be turned on for the citizens.
