Fire in 30-story building at Shkëmbi i Kavajës, 6 asphyxiated people taken to hospital

Six people have been left asphyxiated by the spread of smoke after a fire engulfed an apartment in a 30-story building on the Rock of Kavaja.

They have been taken to Durrës Hospital.

"According to preliminary data, 6 citizens were transported to the hospital to receive medical assistance, after experiencing difficulty breathing due to smoke. Their lives are out of danger," Durrës police announced.

Firefighters who arrived at the 30-story building had difficulty getting residents and tourists who were staying there out due to the blocked elevator and smoke.

The fire broke out in an apartment, but the smoke spread to a significant part of the 30-story building. According to police, at around 8:30 p.m., on the 9th floor.

"Immediately after receiving the notification, the Police and the Ministry of Emergency Situations services went to the scene. The fire has been extinguished and the situation is under control," the police said.

The investigation team continues to work to fully clarify the circumstances and determine the cause of the fire.
