"41 cases of attacks on journalists, 6 with rubber bullets", AGSH demands investigation into police violence in protests: Everything documented with film footage

The Albanian Journalists Association (AGSH) has denounced dozens of cases of attacks on journalists and media workers during the protests, demanding the launch of investigations into each reported incident. AGSH representative, Isa Myzyraj, stated that 41 cases of targeted attacks on media outlets and journalists have been documented, while around 60 media workers have been involved in the incidents.
Invited to speak about the situation, Myzyraj emphasized that these figures demonstrate the difficult climate in which journalists are practicing their profession. He singled out six cases that he described as particularly worrying, where media workers have been hit with rubber bullets by the police.
"The fact that most cases are documented with film footage has helped us a lot," said Myzyraj, emphasizing that the film materials can serve as evidence to solve the incidents.
The AGSH representative demanded that the Police Supervision Agency (AMP) and the Tirana Prosecutor's Office launch investigations into all cases reported by the organization. He also demanded distancing and clarifications from the Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, arguing that, as the highest-ranking leader of the police structure, he must provide answers for the attacks on journalists.
Myzyraj also called on political parties, including the ruling party, to publicly condemn violence against journalists and the media. According to him, MPs should also clearly state their stance against attacks on media workers.
"SPAK and the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, we are ready to make facts available to you," he declared, adding that state institutions have the necessary mechanisms to launch investigations mainly into suspected cases of abuse of power and violence by police officers.
