1.5% of Albanians have alcohol addiction, WHO: Cause of cancer

Albania is among the countries with a high prevalence of alcohol consumption in the population. According to official data, 14% of people over 15 years of age in our country consume alcohol above the permitted norms, while 1.5% are addicted and consume alcohol at levels harmful to health.
The WHO warns that alcohol consumption is the cause of 7 different types of cancer, ranging from all types of oral cancer to breast cancer, which has been the most prevalent in Albania in recent years.
Experts say that any alcoholic beverage causes damage, the greater the consumption, the higher the risk of developing one of the 7 types of cancer.
They blame alcohol for more than 119,000 deaths caused by cardiovascular diseases that occurred in one year.
Recent studies have shown that no amount of alcohol consumption is safe. Experts say there are several mechanisms by which alcohol can cause cancer, the most common being through DNA damage and disruption of the hormonal cycle.
