US Embassy, exchange programs with the University of Gjirokastra

Members of the US Embassy Public Relations Office team recently traveled to Gjirokastër to meet with students, community leaders and civil society groups from southern Albania, the US Embassy in Tirana announced today.
At Eqrem Cabej University, they met with Rector Bektash Mema to discuss the impact of US Embassy exchange programs and cooperation between American and Albanian students/professors, including a new memorandum with Western Michigan University.
The team also heard from university professors who are educating their students about the dangers of fake news/disinformation through an embassy-supported media education project.
Students from Koto Hoxhi and Urani Rumbo schools, who are studying with Fulbright English assistant teacher Sara Gaçe, showed the team their excellent English skills.
At Asim Zeneli High School, students shared their experiences engaging in extracurricular activities through the Embassy-supported Schools as Community Center initiative, managed by the Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM).
The Embassy team also met with local and regional organizations to learn about their work and ways the embassy can support their work through the Commission for Democracy's Small Grants Program.
