For years, he opened gates in the middle of the night with a simple car jack, leaving behind broken homes and missing money.

A 30-year-old Albanian was arrested two days ago at Ciampino Airport, in Italy. He is accused of committing approximately 80 thefts between 2021 and 2024, in the province of Ravenna.

The investigation began in 2021, when the city experienced an increase in residential burglaries, particularly in the areas of Fiume Montone Abbandonato, Via Maggiore, Via Ravegnana and Via Poggi.

The robberies always occurred at night, with a specific target: only cash and valuables. A consistent modus operandi that immediately led investigators to a single source.

"The technique is as simple as it is effective. The bars are opened with a car jack, a silent and easily transportable tool, which is constantly found at the scene of the thefts. A temporal analysis reveals another key element: periods of "presence" characterized by numerous incidents, alternating with periods of complete absence of the same type of theft.

Overall, approximately eighty incidents can be traced to the same pattern, placing Ravenna among the main Italian cities for residential burglaries during that period ," Italian media reported.

Surveillance camera images allow us to describe a precise profile: a young, powerful man with a masked face, agile movements and a distinctive gait. During one of the operations organized to catch the so-called “petty thief”, a man matching the description was seen in a car.

He was stopped and taken to the police station, where he was photographed. Subsequent checks strengthened suspicions: his features and gait matched those captured on video.

The passport and further confirmation from the license plate reading system served as important identification evidence and as evidence. The physiognomic comparison carried out by the Regional Office of the Legal Police, using morphological methods, confirms the match between the collected images and the identified man.

After the summer of 2024, the identification period, thefts using this technique ceased and the suspect was no longer identified in Italy.

The investigating judge of the Court of Ravenna, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office and based on the investigations of the Flying Squad, issued a preliminary detention order against him, accompanied by a search warrant,  the media informs .

The turning point came on the afternoon of February 17: Ciampino Police Department, while checking passengers on a flight from Albania, found the thirty-year-old subject of the warrant. He was taken to the Regina Coeli prison.
