Food exports in January 2026 contributed 0.3 percentage points to the total 4.5% decline in exports. Analysis by chapters shows that the hardest hit came from fresh products, while the processed products segment and several other subsectors showed stability and growth.

In value terms, the most pronounced declines were recorded in fresh agricultural and livestock products. “Ornamental trees and plants” suffered the largest contraction by 54.7%, followed by “Meat and edible offal” by 48.3%, “Edible vegetables” by 44.7% and “Dairy products, eggs and honey” by 44.4%.

Given that vegetables represent one of the most important items in the structure of food exports, their contraction has had a significant impact on the monthly performance of the sector.

In contrast, some chapters recorded strong growth in value. “Cereals” increased by 218.9%, while “Milling industry products” by 148.2%.

Double-digit increases were also recorded in "Sugars and confectionery", "Oils and fats", "Vegetable and fruit preparations" and "Beverages, alcohols and vinegars".

The performance in weight confirms that the decline in some chapters was not only a price effect, but also a real contraction in exported quantities.

"Meat" marked the most drastic decline with 85.8% in weight, while "Vegetables" fell by 46% and "Dairy Products" by 40.4%.

On the other hand, strong increases in weight were recorded in “Cereals” by 544.4% and “Milling industry products” by 137.9%, reflecting significant expansion in exported quantities.

Comparing the two indicators shows a clear dynamic: the decline in the food sector is mainly concentrated in fresh products, where the contraction has come in both value and volume./ SCAN
