The assassination attempt on Arjan Xhambazi 17 years ago in Athens, Gëzim Latja and Armand Tarushllari are being held as defendants

A murder committed 17 years ago in the Greek capital, Athens, has led to the identification and arrest of two people who were taking refuge in Albania.
Armando Tarushllari and Gëzim Latja have been taken into custody by the Korça prosecution, after the investigations conducted against them have proven the involvement of the two people in the intentional murder of Arjan Xhambazi in Greece.
The serious incident occurred at midnight on December 6, 2008, and after committing the crime, the two people left Greek territory, finding refuge in Albania.
The execution of Xhambazi was recorded in the "Karamali Kipseri" garden in Athens, as the cause was a conflict created between the couple Elvira and Flamur Demiri.
Due to the violence inflicted by Flamur Demiri, Elvira had left his apartment and had found shelter at the house of her friend, Merita Hima. Flamur went to Rita's apartment to pick up his wife, but she refused to leave the house, as he was drunk, fearing physical violence.
Everything happened because of a conflict within the family that later escalated into a fight between two groups, who used knives, hard objects, and forks.
As a result of the violent conflict, Arjan Xhambazi died from stab wounds, Flamur Demiri suffered serious injuries, and Ibrahim Demiri suffered minor injuries to his hand.
For years, the two perpetrators of the crime, Tarushllari and Latja, have remained at large, but in May 2024 they were arrested following a decision issued by the Korça Court and are now expected to face trial.
To investigate this murder, the Korça prosecutor's office had to request investigative acts from the Athens prosecutor's office, which made available the investigative actions carried out by the police for this serious event.
It turns out that in Greece, Albanian citizen Edmond Qershia has been arrested and sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison for bodily harm.
Meanwhile, in Albania, the other two people, Armando Tarushllari and Gëzim Latja, are expected to stand trial on charges of "Intentional Murder" against Arjan Xhambazi.
