KPA dismisses arrested prosecutor, Aurel Zarka

The Special Appeals Chamber today decided to dismiss the former chief prosecutor of Vlora, Aurel Zarka.

The panel of judges, composed of chairperson Natasha Mulaj, rapporteur Mimoza Tasi and members Albana Shtylla, Rezarta Schuetz and Sokol Çomo,

At the end of the trial, it unanimously decided to amend decision no. 779, dated 28.06.2024 of the Independent Qualification Commission and to dismiss the subject of the reassessment, Aurel Zarka.

The Special Court had sentenced the former Chief Prosecutor of Vlora, Aurel Zarka, to 4 years in prison, which due to the summary trial was reduced to 2 years and 8 months. He was also disqualified from exercising public functions for 5 years.

The former prosecutor of Vlora had appealed the decision, requesting a review of the evidence and court proceedings.

Zarka is accused of being involved in corruption and exerting influence over his colleagues.

According to SPAK, Aurel Zarka was a user of the Sky Ecc application. Conversations conducted there and other verifications showed that he was bribed for a case in the Vlora Court.

The former prosecutor is also accused of attempting to bribe a colleague in Vlora to drop an investigation and, in 3 other cases, exercising illegal influence over his colleagues.
