Who is 'Mondi'?/ The Albanian criminal who led the gang from prison and corrupted Greek officials

Edmond Përbashaj, known by the nickname 'Mondi' and considered one of the most dangerous figures in the Albanian underworld in Greece, continues to keep his criminal activity alive even from inside prison.
A surprise search of his cell in Nafplio prison has uncovered a mobile phone, a portable router and a metal rod, showing once again that he has not stopped for a moment in running his network.
Senior Greek police officials, who do not hide their frustration with the situation, have stated to the media that " even in isolation, Mondi finds ways to have cell phones, drugs and contacts with the outside world ."
He is known as one of the strongest 'bosses' of the Albanian mafia in Greece, with a widespread network of collaborators, mainly Albanians, spread throughout the territory.
According to information from Greek authorities, Përbashaj has created a sophisticated system within prisons through collaborations with corrupt officials, including the deputy director of one of the prisons where he previously served time.
With their help, he smuggled drugs, organized trafficking, and laundered money through the prison canteen, creating a 'real criminal shop' within the walls of the penal institution.
Greek forensic laboratories are analyzing the seized cellphone and equipment in search of evidence that could link Mondi to recent crimes in the country, including the murder of an Albanian citizen in Thrakomedones a few months ago, bomb explosions, as well as drug trafficking.
Perbashai has been through most of Greece's prisons and in each case has managed to maintain control over his external network, using influence, fear and corruption.
Currently, a new criminal case has been opened against him, which is expected to go to trial in the coming months.
Greek authorities are facing serious challenges in breaking his influence within the penitentiary system and outside it, while the Edmond Përbaşaj case is being seen as a real test for the integrity of the country's justice and security institutions.
