Skateboards / The most dangerous "trend" that is serving as a source of accidents in Albania

To avoid traffic, but also the high price of fuel, has made many citizens move with electronic skateboards, turning it into the newest trend of transportation in our country.
But most of their users are minors or people who don't have a driving license, i.e. people who don't know the road code and signage, causing accidents.
There are many cases when drivers of skateboards go through red traffic lights, speed on sidewalks, boulevards, traffic jams, cut off drivers who have priority with green traffic lights, do not walk in bicycle and motorcycle lanes.
But these road users have become a problem not only for drivers and pedestrians, but also for the traffic police.
The Traffic Code does not provide for the punishment of violations caused by these electric vehicles, and as a result, there is no legal basis for the traffic police to impose administrative or criminal measures and only counseling is sufficient.
Currently, it is not determined if they can be used by all ages, but respecting the traffic rules that apply to other vehicles.
So, even a minor without a license to drive any type of vehicle can walk the streets with skateboards, but respecting the traffic rules that he does not know.
If you look at the statistics of road accidents from 2023 until now, they have increased by 90% in the category of skateboards, which do not have any safety measures. They are without spacesuits, phosphorescent clothing, etc.
Although skateboards and electronic motors have become massively used, the general directorate of the road transport service has not yet made a classification to call these electronic motor vehicles or bicycle vehicles.
Today one of the most used tools, but where and when was the first electric scooter invented
Electric scooters, which have increased in number around the world because they are so practical, were invented more than 100 years ago, in 1916.
The first was designed in 1913 and brought to market three years later by American inventor Arthur Hugo Cecil Gibson. The Autoped Company of Long Island City, New York, produced the first motorized scooter for adults from 1915 to 1922, which was marketed under the company's namesake, the Autoped.
Of course, times were different from today for an electric motor in a scooter that would arrive more than a century later: The Autoped was powered by gas from a 155cc, air-cooled, four-stroke engine in the front wheel. Fuel delivery and speed were adjusted with a lever on the steering wheel.
This scooter had a range of 53 km on one liter and reached a speed of 56 km/h. Although advertised as a means of transportation for all budgets, in reality the Autoped cost around $100, which between the 1910s and 1920s represented a considerable sum. Also, although it could be folded to be easier to transport, one of the main drawbacks was its weight, 45 kg. Which, of course, didn't make it as easy to use as today's two-wheeled micro-vehicles.
Measures taken in Europe
The French government decided to raise the age of electric scooter use from 12 to 14 years.
Over 2 million French people own electric scooters, while attention is drawn to the increase in accidents with the increase in the number of this vehicle.
The fine in case two people ride these vehicles will increase to 135 euros, adding that out of every 5 accidents in Paris, one happens because 2 people ride electric scooters.
But Paris became the first European capital to completely ban this service.
In the consultative vote organized by the city hall in April, almost 90% of voters who went to the polls – representing 7% of those registered due to strong abstentions – voted in favor of the ban.
London has banned private skateboards from public roads because of 'battery fires'. The measure applies to privately owned electric skateboards even when folded or hand-held, and is punishable by heavy fines.
Transport for London and the fire services said that incidents such as fires caused by the lithium-ion batteries of these vehicles can damage life and various environments, and also from the toxic fumes they emit in enclosed spaces.
The measure does not include wheelchair electric vehicles, which authorities said have better manufacturing standards and less fire risk.
They added that the proposed fine is up to 1,000 pounds.
Even the Italian legislative authorities declare that they are working to draft some changes that will be made to the Italian Road Code, with the aim of making it mandatory to wear a helmet while driving monopolies, cutting the insurance. and at the same time their registration, in order to be identified when they commit traffic violations.
This act is being undertaken to limit road deaths from the use of skateboards, which, for 2022, were a full 3,120.
With the newest, but also dangerous trend in the country, it seems that a real need has arisen for an adaptation of the Road Code regarding the classification, traffic rules, violations or even the corresponding punishments for people who travel with these means of transport./ Alfapress .co.uk
