After 13 years, the Nile virus returned to our country, while one of the evidenced foci is in Savër, Lushnja, where the Institute of Public Health has confirmed a 63-year-old infected.
Top Channel contacted Skender Delilaj, who discovered the infection after going to Greece. He underwent specialized treatment there, as his temperature did not decrease for days.
" Since Saturday, I had a headache. On Sunday afternoon, he gave me a big headache and a temperature of up to 40", he said.
Diagnosing the 63-year-old with Nile Fever was not easy even for Greek doctors. Initially, the 63-year-old Albanian was suspected of being sick from consuming dairy, but after an analysis of the patient's marrow, it was confirmed that he was infected by a mosquito bite and the infection had occurred during the period that the 63-year-old was in Albania.
The authorities in Greece subsequently notified the Ministry of Health in Albania.
" I went to the hospital in Greece, they admitted me there, they discovered it after three days. I fell as if in a coma" - he says.
Residents in Savër say that the authorities have sprayed the area and that they themselves are trying to take the necessary measures to avoid mosquito bites. The elderly and those suffering from other diseases do not hide their fear.
