Hidden assets of politicians and organized crime, SPAK requested help 163 times from 32 countries around the world

To investigate corrupt politicians and prosecutors, tender abuses, or the concealment of assets by domestic officials, the Special Structure (SPAK) has also sought assistance from foreign jurisdictions.
According to SPAK's 2024 annual report, last year alone, this structure sent 163 requests for legal assistance to authorities in 32 foreign countries for a wide range of criminal offenses.
The list of those from whom SPAK has requested information or documents through letters consists of neighboring countries and European Union countries, but there is also no shortage of those in Latin America and the Far East.
The country that has received the most requests for assistance in criminal investigations from SPAK during 2024 is France, with 40 such requests, related to criminal files for which the Special Structure has requested materials from decrypted conversations on the SKY ECC platform.
The second country in line is Italy, whose authorities SPAK has requested assistance in 21 cases, followed by the Netherlands with 14 requests and England with 11 requests, writes A2 CNN.
The lowest number of letters of request was registered towards the most distant countries. According to the data, with at least one letter, SPAK has addressed the courts of 15 countries for legal assistance, including Colombia, Paraguay, Singapore and Malaysia.
On the other hand, SPAK has not only requested legal assistance, but has also provided it. According to the annual report, in 70 cases, SPAK has received requests from foreign courts, with Italy leading the way with 13 requests, followed by Belgium and Germany with 10 each.
According to the data, requests received from foreign judicial authorities have served to launch property investigations in Albania, based on the Anti-Mafia law, as has happened in 5 cases, following letters of request received from Germany and Belgium.
Likewise, the year 2024 has increased by 10 the number of 27 SPAK joint investigative teams with foreign prosecutors formed in the period 2020-2023.
