Donald Trump's tariffs have also affected the technology and telecommunications sectors. Foreign media reports that the value of a new iPhone could now go up to $2,300 if Apple passes the cost on to the consumer.
The tariffs announced by Trump on Wednesday have sent financial markets tumbling and drawn condemnation from world leaders. Investment bank JP Morgan said it now sees a 60% chance the global economy will fall into recession by the end of the year, up from 40% previously.
US tariffs are the largest economic barriers in more than a century, a 10% tariff base on all imports and higher tariffs on many other countries.
