"We don't want TikTok to shut down"/ Donald Trump extends

US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he will postpone for another 75 days the implementation of the law requiring the sale or ban of TikTok in the US.

This gives the administration more time to finalize a deal that could allow the popular app to continue operating in this market.

“We do not want TikTok to ‘disappear.’ We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the deal,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Friday. The platform is currently owned by Chinese company ByteDance.

Trump's first extension took effect in January and was scheduled to expire on Saturday.

The social media platform, which is used by 170 million people in the US, was initially shut down for hours before Trump took office, as the app was preparing to shut down in the US following a law passed by Congress.
