The Mesit Bridge in Milot is destroyed, 2.3 million euros are not enough to rehabilitate and maintain it

In addition to these expenses, the Albanian state spends a full 1.3 million euros on the maintenance of the segment, while there is still significant damage. The Fiks Fare filming crew traveled to the Middle Bridge again, after numerous denunciations, accompanied by photos and videos, that attempts had been made to remove the metal parts from the site.
The damage was to the asphalt and joints of the bridge, while the government's investments were at the foot of this work. However, all the damage has a common denominator, the continuous erosion, which has never stopped, night or day.
In September of last year, Fiksi followed the erosion of the Mat River for several months, starting from Rubiku, Skuraj, Ura e Zogut and ending in Milot and the highway bridge. Along this entire length, there were large piles of inert materials. Fiksi's camera even filmed excavators working very close to the bridges.
The film also filmed erosion near the arched bridge of Mat, the Bird's Bridge. The excavator was working again near this bridge, a Cultural Monument destroyed years ago. The vehicles are taking gravel from the middle of the river.
"The most scandalous thing was that excavators and heavy vehicles were also taking inert materials from the Treni bridge, which connected the town of Milot with Lezha, a bridge closed in the summer of 2025. Before this date, Fiksi filmed numerous vehicles working very close to the bridge, digging and taking large tons of inert materials. The works were at a very close distance to the bridge, about 30 meters," Fiksi would denounce.
The bridge was closed in July 2025, as the Albanian Road Authority opened a tender at that time worth 108 million lek (about 1.1 million euros) for emergency interventions to protect the bridge's legs.
A few months after this denunciation, Fiksi went to the Train Bridge again, after numerous denunciations that large parts of this bridge have been destroyed. According to the photos, metal parts of the bridge have been removed from the site, while the cavities of the bridge have been covered with asphalt.
The camera observes and closely examines the condition of the bridge, the upper part, which has not undergone any changes or work. The camera films other cavities, where journalists manually remove the asphalt placed on top of the iron.
Following the new problem in Milot, the Albanian Road Authority has also reacted. In a statement, the ARRSH writes that; "We have been notified by the maintenance contractor company regarding intentional damage to the Milot Bridge and engineers have been immediately sent to the field to verify the situation. The verifications show that the metal joints of the bridge were not damaged as a result of an attempted robbery during the night hours."
Further, the ARRSH writes that the act has been referred to the Lezha Police, as it constitutes not only damage to public property but also a direct risk to the safety of vehicles circulating. Finally, the Authority writes that "the damage has been repaired by maintenance groups and traffic on the Milot Bridge continues normally."
ARRSH has a contract in force with a company for the maintenance of a 36.5 km axis in the northern region, which also includes the Milot Train Bridge. The tender was opened in 2024 and has a 4-year term, while the value is 132 million lek.
But, despite these wasted expenses, 1 million for the legs and 1.3 million for maintenance, is the crossing on that bridge in optimal condition? Fiksi asked drivers and residents of the area, who said that, although the bridge was blocked for several months in the summer of last year, the condition still speaks for itself. According to them, the money has been wasted, as vehicles risk crossing there every day.
