A gunshot incident was reported this afternoon in Shkodra , where a wanted person managed to escape from police during a police operation.
According to preliminary information, it is about the citizen Barush Bregu , also known as Bajram Bregu . The incident occurred in the Kiras neighborhood, where a police patrol called a vehicle to stop for inspection. At the moment when the officers started pursuing the vehicle, the passenger Bregu, fired a gun in the air and then managed to escape. While the driver of the vehicle, whose name has not been disclosed, was arrested by the Police.
Bregu is considered by the authorities to be a person with a criminal record and connected to the Ibrahim Lici family . He is also wanted for suspected involvement in a previous assassination attempt in Shkodër, where Armando Pali and Liridon Kraja lost their lives, while Erogen Vaso (alias Brajovic) and the waitress Meri Kaceri were injured . According to the investigations, he is suspected of having provided the weapons and tools used in that event.
His name has been known to the police for years. In 2016, he was sentenced to four years in prison for cultivating narcotic plants in collaboration and possessing weapons without a license. Two years later, during a search of his apartment, the police found a Kalashnikov assault rifle, and in May 2019 he was arrested again after being declared wanted on several serious charges.
Authorities consider Bregu one of the strongmen of the criminal world in Shkodra and a close associate of Ibrahim Lici , suspected of being the perpetrator of the double murder of brothers Astrit Bilali and Brahim Bilali on March 30. The Lici family has long been rumored to be in conflict with the Bajri criminal group.
According to investigators, Bregu is suspected of having assisted Lici in several criminal events, being part of his movements and activities. He has previously managed to escape the police during a chase in Shkodra, crashing his vehicle into two police patrols.
His name was also mentioned in the assassination attempt on Elis Rroshkodoli , who was shot with a gun while he was in a bar in the Zdrale area.
The conflict between the parties has old roots. In 2010, Rroshkodoli shot and wounded Hysni Bregu , the father of Barush Bregu, an episode that, according to sources, is considered one of the beginnings of the clash between the rival groups.
