Missiles towards Turkey/ Erdogan warns Iran: They are pouring gasoline on the fire
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reacted to the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, stating that despite constant warnings from Ankara, Iran is continuing to take wrong and provocative steps.
Speaking after the cabinet meeting, the Turkish head of state stressed that the country's main priority remains the protection of national security and the stability of Turkish citizens.
"Our main goal is to keep our country away from this fire. Ensuring the security of Turkey and the peace of our 86 million citizens is the highest priority in this process. We do not want even a single hair of our citizens to be harmed," Erdoğan declared.
The Turkish president added that, while some actors in the region are "pouring gasoline on the fire" by fomenting destabilization, Turkey is trying to play a stabilizing role to contain the spread of the conflict and extinguish it if possible.
According to him, despite sincere warnings from Ankara, Iran continues to take steps that increase tensions in the region.
"We must not allow our brotherly relations to be damaged. Our efforts to prevent further escalation of the conflict are clear," he said.
Erdogan also stressed that Turkey will continue to closely follow developments in coordination with NATO and other allies, taking the necessary measures to protect its interests and security.
