High temperatures increase the number of insects, doctor: What you need to know about bites during the summer

With rising temperatures, the number of insects in the environment has increased, leading to an increase in bite cases that are being directed to family doctors.
Antia Haxhiraj, a doctor at Family Medicine Center No. 10, explains that with the warming weather, the number of patients with allergic reactions to insect bites has increased.
"The most common cases are from mosquitoes, some small flies, bees, wasps, and in rarer cases, from fire ants, which are more widespread on beaches," says Dr. Haxhiraj.
Insect bites can cause a variety of symptoms, from mild reactions that can be treated at home to serious allergies that require medical intervention.
"Most cases are local reactions at the bite site, such as redness, itching, and swelling. However, in rarer cases, systemic manifestations may occur, such as wound enlargement, breathing problems, or swelling spreading to other areas of the body. These cases require immediate hospital treatment," the doctor emphasizes.
In case of bites from mosquitoes and small flies, no special care is needed, except for applying cold water compresses.
In the event of a bee sting, the area should be washed with soap and water, and a cold compress should be applied to reduce swelling.
Under no circumstances should the bite site be scratched to avoid infection. If the sting is visible, it should be carefully removed.
Although rarer, the risk of snake bites increases during the summer, for which immediate medical attention should be sought at hospital centers.
