Trafficked 613 kg of cocaine from Latin America, the Supreme Court upholds the 14-year prison sentence for Arbër Çekaj

The Supreme Court has upheld the 14-year prison sentence for Arbër Çekaj, found guilty of trafficking 613 kg of cocaine from Latin America in 2018, at the Port of Durrës.
The narcotics were found in a container of bananas and were destined for the company "Arbi Garden", owned by Çekaj.
The Supreme Court has also sealed the sentences for his two associates, Donaldo Lushaj has been sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison, while Armando Pezaku will serve 8 years and 8 months in prison.
The drugs were seized on February 28, 2018 at the Port of Durres and constitute the largest quantity of cocaine ever seized in the country. The quantity was divided into 528 different packages, each with distinctive markings.
According to the Prosecution, Arbër Çekaj turns out to be the organizer of the entire drug trafficking operation, including ordering, dispatching, transporting and arriving at Albania.
Arben Çekaj was sentenced to 21 years in prison, but benefited from a reduced sentence and will serve 14 years in prison.
