200 kg of cocaine hidden in a container in Spain discovered, Albanian gang hit

An Albanian criminal organization involved in cocaine trafficking to Europe has been busted by the Spanish National Police, in cooperation with the Spanish Tax Agency.
During the operation, authorities seized 200 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a container at the port of Vigo and arrested eight people, five of whom have been placed in custody.
The investigation began in 2024 and aimed to uncover criminal networks that exploited direct sea routes between Latin America and the Galicia region to smuggle drugs into the European market. According to authorities, the drugs were transported via container ships, using a method known as "blind hooking", where the narcotics are hidden in containers without the knowledge of the shipping companies.
After months of wiretapping and surveillance, investigators identified the main members of the network. The operational phase of the operation began on January 12, when five people were arrested in Vigo. Two of them were caught in a rented apartment near the city, while three others were arrested in a restaurant in the city center, just a day before the arrival of the ship carrying the drugs.
The operation continued in the following days, leading to other arrests in A Coruña, Lugo, Madrid and the O Salnés region, where other members of the organization were located.
According to investigative sources, the leader of the group was a close associate of a well-known drug trafficker, now deceased, described as a "drug lord." He had secured the support of a local organization to establish himself in the region and had an arrest warrant in force for drug trafficking.
During the operation, 20,000 euros in cash were also seized. Authorities say this was the group's first attempt to smuggle cocaine into Europe through the port of Vigo.
