US sends naval forces to Iran, Trump: We are prepared if we have to intervene

United States President Donald Trump has announced that the US has sent large naval forces to Iran, amid rising tensions with Tehran.
In a statement to reporters, Trump said that the decision was made to be prepared for any possible scenario, including a military intervention, if the situation requires it.
" We have a lot of ships going in that direction, just in case. I would prefer nothing to happen, but we are watching them very closely ," Trump said, as he returned to the US after attending the economic conference held in Davos.
The US president reiterated previous warnings against Iran, demanding that Tehran not restart its nuclear program and stop the executions of people arrested during recent protests against the regime.
Tensions in the Middle East have been escalating since earlier this month, after Trump hinted that the US could intervene in Iran. The warning came at a time when Iranian authorities launched a crackdown to suppress mass protests, the largest in recent years.
