US embassy in Venezuela reopens after seven years

The United States announced today the reopening of its embassy in Venezuela. The US embassy in Venezuela is reopening seven years after it was closed and nearly three months after President Nicolas Maduro was captured in a military operation.

"Today, we officially reopen the United States Embassy in Caracas, marking a new phase in our diplomatic presence in Venezuela," the State Department announced.

Since Maduro's arrest, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has served as interim president and is governing under pressure from Washington, with President Donald Trump expressing great interest in the country's vast oil reserves.
