Bosnian court issues international arrest warrant for Milorad Dodik, heading to

The pro-Russian president of Republika Srpska, the Serb entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, announced on Monday that he had arrived in Moscow.

Through a post on X – formerly Twitter – Dodik said that every time he goes to the Russian capital, he starts his stay with "a visit to the Monument to the Unknown Hero, to honor the 28 million Russians who died in World War II."

He did not provide details about the reasons for the visit, but said he will be there again on May 9, to mark Victory Day against fascism during World War II.

The court in Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an international arrest warrant for Dodik because he has not responded to the Prosecutor's Office's requests to be interviewed regarding suspicions that he committed the criminal offense of attacking the constitutional order.

"I will be here again on May 9, at the invitation of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism, during which the Russian and Serbian people have mourned the most," Dodik said in a video published on X.

"Some are trying to rewrite history. It is impossible, but those who want to do this are trying to distort historical facts. The historical facts about the suffering of the Russian and Serbian people and the Jews during World War II will not be able to be changed," Dodik said.

He has spoken with great respect for Putin, whom he has met several times since the start of Russia's war in Ukraine, and whom he has described as "an important historical leader of the Russian people."

"He has endured everything and has come to the situation of welcoming another counterpart, who is important in combating the global elite, and that is President (American, Donald) Trump in the United States," Dodik said.

On March 27, the Court in Bosnia and Herzegovina requested that the International Police Organization (INTERPOL) issue a red notice for Dodik and the Speaker of the Parliament of Republika Srpska, Nenad Stevandic, on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of "attacking the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina."

The “Red Notice” alerts police worldwide to internationally wanted fugitives and helps bring them to justice. However, it is up to INTERPOL member countries to decide whether to arrest a person or not.

The decision was made after the two fled Bosnia, avoiding legal border procedures, and in the meantime, arrest warrants have been issued, meaning police agencies must send them to the court in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The request for the arrest of top RS officials comes at a turbulent time, after Dodik was sentenced in the first instance by the Bosnian Court on February 26 to one year in prison and a six-year ban on holding public office for failing to comply with the decisions of the international High Representative in Bosnia.

A day after the verdict, the People's Assembly of the RS adopted unconstitutional laws with which, in the territory of the entity, it attempted to stop the work of the Court and Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia, the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), as well as the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council.

The Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina ruled on March 7 on a temporary measure and suspended the implementation of laws adopted by the entity's Parliament./ REL
