Kim Jong Un: North Korea will never give up its nuclear power status

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reiterated that his country will never give up its nuclear power status, calling South Korea the "most hostile state," according to state media.

"We will continue to steadily and irreversibly strengthen our status as a nuclear-weapon state while intensifying the fight against hostile forces," Kim said during a speech to the country's parliament in Pyongyang.

He added that, in accordance with the mission set out in the Constitution, North Korea will continue to develop and strengthen its nuclear capability for self-defense.

According to him, the development of the nuclear arsenal is "fully justified", while Pyongyang will guarantee "full operational readiness" to face strategic threats.

Kim rejected any possibility of nuclear disarmament in exchange for economic benefits or security guarantees. "The current global reality, where the rights of sovereign states are violated by the unilateral use of force, clearly shows us what guarantees the existence and peace of a state," he said.

According to the North Korean leader, nuclear weapons have prevented war and allowed the country to focus resources on economic development and improving living standards.

Analysts in South Korea believe that Kim's statements also constitute an indirect criticism of the United States' actions towards Iran and Venezuela.

According to expert Hong Min from the Korean Institute for National Unification, these developments are being interpreted by the North Korean leadership as a reason to continue strengthening nuclear capabilities.

During the speech, Kim addressed a wide range of issues, from defense policy and nuclear weapons, to economic objectives and relations with Seoul and Washington, state news agency KCNA reported.

He used harsh tones towards South Korea, warning that he would treat it as the "greatest enemy" and that he would make it "pay mercilessly" for any action that harms North Korea.

Meanwhile, North Korea's parliament on Sunday re-elected Kim Jong Un to the post of chairman of state affairs, the highest office in the country.
