Who will lead the Police? Today the interviews of the candidates for the post of police chief

Today at 09:30, police officers running for Director General of the State Police will have the interview phase.
The commission at the Ministry of Interior, composed of Deputy Minister of Interior Silva Caka, Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior Kledia Ngjela, and head of the AMP Eduart Merkaj, have evaluated the candidates' files.
In total, 16 people applied for the position of police chief, 2 of whom were women who were not part of the State Police, Ejona Gurbardhi and Suela Sulkaj. The latter were disqualified from the competition after preliminary verification.
After the interview, all candidates will be ranked from best to worst. Within 48 hours, Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari will forward a name to the Council of Ministers for appointment.
The first-ranked person does not necessarily become the new director of the State Police. The law has provided for the possibility of appointing another, based on the assessment of the Minister of Interior.
The open call for 7 days in a row, showed interest in the names of current leaders in the regions and the rest who currently serve in the Security Academy. With a long career in the State Police, with important positions on his shoulders, from the head of the Tirana Police to the Criminal Police, Tonin Vocaj shows the ambition to replace Ilir Proda. Skënder Hitaj, recently at the head of the Fier Police, one of the most prominent names in the police in recent years, including the leadership of the Shkodër, Durrës or Dibër regions, becomes part of the competition for the second time. The leaders and former leaders of several departments in the State Police showed interest in the major rank, among whom the director of the Criminal Police, Neritan Nallbati, the head of the Department for International Relations, Pëllumb Seferi and the former director of the Border and Migration, Saimir Boshnjaku.
From the current leadership in the regions, the police directors of Vlora, Durrës and Shkodra, respectively Elidon Çela, Afrim Tafa and Gentian Berberi, all three with consolidated careers within the blues, are also part of the race. From the border, Arjanit Arapi also shows interest in the chief of police. They have been serving at the Security Academy for several years, but with important positions in the police, they aspire to lead the police. We are talking about the former directors of Tirana and not only, Rebani Jaupi and Lorenc Panganika, including the candidacies of Alfred Çepe, Idajet Faskaj and Gentjan Shehaj.
The position of Director General of the State Police was left vacant by the resignation of Ilir Proda, following the violent protest of the Democratic Party, where "Vila 31" in the former Bllok was attacked.
Currently, Sokol Bizhga serves as the acting director of the State Police.
